World Dice Day Update

Adding to the information gathered last year (December 4: World Dice Day): The original “National Dice Day” came indeed into existence for Chase’s Calendar of Events 2005. It was sponsored by Julia Chase, granddaughter of two of the founders of the Calendar, Helen and Bill Chase (the third being Bill’s brother Harrison). December 4th is both the birthday of Helen Chase, and the release date of the first Chase’s Calendar of events in 1957. Julia Chase probably chose both the date and the topic to honor her grandmother, Helen Chase, who apparently was fond of dice.1

  1. I’m indebted to the kind help of Holly McGuire, Editor in Chief at Chase’s, who answered my emails in January 2021. []
